A spectacular batting effort from the North Hobart Cricket Club under 17 Girls side has resulted in a 97 run win in the 2017/18 Cricket Tasmania Premier League U17 Girls Grand Final.
North Hobart Co-Captains Ella Marsh and Samantha Roberts won the toss and elected to bat on a batter friendly pitch at Queenborough Oval. Despite losing opener Chelsea Thomas (0) early, this decision proved a masterstroke, as the two captains in Marsh 36* (47) and Roberts 38* (38) both retired not out, putting on 88 for the second wicket partnership. Hard hitter Grace Pullen (0) fell early, however, some late order hitting from wicket-keeper and all round star Melodie Armstrong 37 (26) saw the Demons to a respectable 4/159 (20).
Opening the bowling for the Demons, Grace Pullen and Ella Marsh set the tone; as they had done all season. Pullen bowled with consistent pace, keeping the South Hobart Sandy Bay batters on their toes, and with Marsh completing her four overs with the figures of 2/6, the Demons looked in a strong position. Elise Harrison 2/6 (3.1) played a key role through the Demons’ bowling innings, and was well backed up by some fantastic fielding from Pullen, who took two catches and a run out. Jayde Davis was also spectacular through the middle, finishing with figures of 1/6 (4), as South Hobart Sandy Bay were bowled out for 62 (19.1), handing the Demons their inaugural U17 Girls Premiership.
